Fresno State’s CineCulture program partnered with the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom to host the league’s first stop on its California Environmental Guardianship Tour. The first event is a screening of the film “Chasing Ice,” 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 22 in the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center in the Student Recreation Center. The film is the story of one man’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering evidence of a changing Earth. Dr. Peter Van De Water, assistant professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and Joan Sharma, professor of Art and Design, will lead a post-screening discussion.

A companion workshop, “The Precautionary Principle and Guardianship of the Earth for Future Generations,” is hosted by the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom, 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at Arte Americas (1630 Van Ness Ave). Indigenous speakers will present and the organization will lead hands-on exercises. They will also lead group discussions about how to empower participants to act toward banning fracking or hydraulic fracturing in California’s Monterey Shale.
