The Lyles College of Engineering’s Annual Projects Day noon-4 p.m. May 2 is an opportunity for teachers, counselors and K-12 students from the region to explore innovation and design in engineering and construction management at Fresno State.
The free event is open to the public and will be held in the Satellite Student Union.
Fresno State student designers – mostly seniors and graduate students in the Lyles College of Engineering – will present their senior projects, research and internship projects including a pipeline conveyance system, a mechatronics club mech warfare robot and a renewable energy system that converts solar energy to electrical energy. On many of the projects, the engineering students worked with local industry mentors.
There will also be demonstrations of a canal delivery system for the Southeast Fresno Water Treatment Plant, design of the interchange at Caltrans U.S. Route 101 in Nipomo, San Luis Obispo County, a DSP Guitar Effects Synthesizer and robot intelligence.
“Our annual event promises to showcase innovative research, design and development activities taking place at Fresno State,” said Dr. Ram Nunna, dean of the Lyles College, the oldest publicly supported engineering college in the San Joaquin Valley.
The Lyles College of Engineering has more than 6,000 alumni and has been a core academic program at Fresno State for nearly 90 years. The college offers nationally accredited undergraduate degree programs in civil engineering, computer engineering, construction management, electrical engineering, geomatics engineering and mechanical engineering. Graduate degree programs are established in civil engineering and engineering with options in mechanical engineering, computer engineering and electrical engineering.
Last year, the college was awarded $800,000 over three years by the James Irvine Foundation in support of the Lyles’ new Pathways to Engineering and Construction Management Careers initiative, which will connect the college with local school districts, community colleges and industry to accomplish key goals like increasing learning opportunities for students and forming a regional partnership of education stakeholders.
