For the first time in its nine-year history, Fresno State’s Mock Trial team will advance to the American Mock Trial Association’s 30th annual National Championship Tournament after winning the Opening Round Championship Series Tournament March 8-9 in Newport Beach.

“The year started with approximately 700 college mock trial teams competing, including top teams from Arizona State University, Claremont McKenna, University of California, Irvine and University of Southern California,” said attorney and team coach Gordon Park. “I could not be more proud of this team and our future lawyers.”

Fresno State’s team, composed of 13 students, will compete against 47 other teams from across the nation April 11-13 in Orlando. The teams will be divided in two divisions of 24 teams each. The first-place teams from each division will face off in the final round for the national championship.

Park said outside funding is necessary for the team to accept invitations to compete against top schools. “Grant money and donations through the Fresno State Foundation are absolutely crucial to continued success and recognition”
