Fresno State’s Interim Provost Dr. Andrew Hoff announced that Dr. Saeed Attar will serve as director of the Smittcamp Family Honors College effective July 1. Attar, a professor of chemistry at Fresno State since 2000, will replace Dr. Honora Chapman as director. The Smittcamp Family Honors College began in 1998 with a $1 million gift from Earl and Muriel Smittcamp and family, a prominent agribusiness family and longtime supporters of Fresno State. Honors College students receive an annual President’s Honors Scholarship for their undergraduate degree program up to a maximum of eight semesters. Scholarships cover in-state registration and an optional credit for university housing. Attar earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Nevada, Reno and has taught at Yuba College, UC Davis and Nova Southeastern University in Florida. He was recognized with the Provost Award for Graduate Teaching and Mentoring in 2008. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Delta honor societies and has been active in the local section of the American Chemical Society.  INFO: Kathleen Schock at kschock@csufresno.edu or 559.278.2756.
