The inaugural Global Music Lecture Series, hosted by the Department of Music Thursday, Oct. 16, will feature the University of California, Berkeley’s Dr. Lisa Gold and Dr. Benjamin Brinner on the music of Bali and Java. A joint lecture titled “Bali and Java: Musical Connections and Contrasts” will be presented from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the Music Department Concert Hall. At 6 p.m., Brinner will present “Expert Musical Memory in Javanese Gamelan Performance”  in the Alice Peters Auditorium, followed by Gold’s lecture, “The Tradition of Change: New Directions in Balinese Shadow Theater.” All events are free and open to the public.
