Fresno State’s national and state flags are flying at half-staff today (Oct. 24) in memory of Dr. Earl Smittcamp, an alumnus, national agribusiness leader, generous philanthropist and passionate supporter of Fresno State. Dr. Smittcamp died Monday, Oct. 20. Services are at 2:30 p.m. today at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clovis (12168 N. Willow Ave.). University President Joseph I. Castro issued the directive that flags be lowered in honor of Dr. Smittcamp, owner and operator of Wawona Orchards and Wawona Frozen Foods. A 1939 graduate of then-Fresno State College, Dr. Smittcamp received an honorary doctorate from the university in 1995. Original press release.
