The Central Valley Higher Education Consortium’s CollegeNext! Bootcamp returns in January to offer the opportunity for high school juniors, many of which will be first-generation college students, to prepare for college admission.

The program runs from Jan. 4-7, providing more than 60 high school students a dorm-like experience and instruction in preparation for college and careers. Students were recruited from high schools in Fresno, Tulare, Farmersville, Orange Cove, Dinuba, Reedley, Orosi and Parlier.

Participants will experience a college living environment in the rooms at University Square Hotel in Fresno. The students will receive leadership training in classes at Fresno State designed to equip them to become College Opportunity Ambassadors for their campuses and community.

Current college students and mentors will be on hand to answer questions about expectations and provide recommendations for students on how to eventually earn college degrees.

This boot camp also serves as an opportunity for students to learn about financial aid and scholarships.

The program is offered by the Central Valley Higher Education Consortium and funded by a grant from the Fresno Regional Foundation.
