More than 200 Fresno Unified fifth grade students will compete and highlight their talents at Kids Invent! Innovation Day, 4-7 p.m. Thursday, May 21 in North Gym 118 at Fresno State. At the event, teams of students will be provided materials to build catapults. The students will test the catapults by launching ping pong balls at targets designed by Hoover High School Regional Occupation Program (ROP) Construction Technology students. Each Fresno Unified region will have one team winner and an overall Creativity and Innovation Award will be announced. Kids Invent! is an educational program geared around science, engineering and entrepreneurship by using unique lesson plans that build upon a student’s creative and critical thinking skills. The program is a partnership between Fresno Unified and Fresno State’s Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship that brings activities to every fifth grade classroom in the district.
