Retired Lt. Col. Lorenzo P. Rios (U.S. Army), former commander of Fresno State’s Army ROTC Bulldog Battalion, was named chief executive officer of theClovis Veterans Memorial District Monday. Rios, who retired from Fresno State and the Army in May after a distinguished 23-year military career, was also chair of the Department of Military Science (Army) within the Craig School of Business. A naturalized United States citizen born in Mexico, Rios was a migrant farmworker who also served in the U.S. Marine Corps. In the Army, Rios was deployed in the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan and has been awarded two bronze stars — one for combat leadership in Iraq and one for leading a special interagency coordination cell in Afghanistan.
