Internationally acclaimed writer Carmen Tafolla, a former Fresno State professor now teaching at the University of Texas, San Antonio, is the 2015-16 Texas State Poet Laureate selected by the 84th Texas Legislature earlier this year. The associate professor of practice with the UTSA College of Education and Human Development’s Department of Bicultural-Bilingual Studies was officially invested as poet laureate at the Texas State Capitol in Austin in May. Tafolla is the author of more than 20 acclaimed poetry and prose books and has published works for both children and adult readers in more than 200 anthologies, magazines, journals, textbooks and readers.
