Monica Billen, assistant professor in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, was presented the 2016 Outstanding Dissertation Award at the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) conference in Las Vegas. The award recognized Billen for her study, #Learningtoteach: Using Instagram to Elicit Pre-service Teacher Reflection, completed at the University of Tennessee. The study looked at an innovative reflection method utilized by teachers in training, which combined photo reflections with written and oral reflections. Dr. Paul Beare, dean of the Kremen School, called Billen’s a “unique, innovative and rigorous” study that used a “cutting-edge method that has not been done in education before.”
