The Master of Fine Arts Program in Creative Writing at Fresno State is seeking applicants for the 2016 Andrés Montoya Memorial Scholarships, which honor the late poet and teacher Andrés Montoya. Each fall the Montoya family awards two $500 scholarships – one at the undergraduate level and one at the graduate level – to students who demonstrate significant interest in Chicano/a culture and/or history, and are pursuing a career in creative writing. Montoya graduated from Fresno State in 1992, where he served as student body president in 1991-92. He died in the spring of 1999.
