A memorial for Dr. Barbara Varley will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26, at the Smittcamp Alumni House. Dr. Varley, who was a professor emeritus in the Department of Social Work Education at Fresno State, died earlier this year. The commemoration, hosted by the department in partnership with the Fresno State Alumni Association Social Work Chapter, will honor Dr. Varley’s work and commitment to the profession. She was the former associate dean of the School of Social Work at Fresno State, prior to its emergence as a department within the College of Health and Human Services. A silent auction will include books from her personal collection. Dr. Su Kapoor, professor emeritus, and his wife, Veena, will present a $1,000 gift toward a scholarship in Dr. Varley’s name.
