Registration is now available for the fifth annual Center for Leadership, Mentoring and Research (CLEAR) Summit set for 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, in the North Gym (Room 118). Geared toward both K-12 and higher education educators but open to the public, the event is designed to eliminate educational and social disparities that impede equitable opportunities and outcomes for all students and the communities from which they arrive, said Dr. Ken Magdaleno, director of the CLEAR program which is partnering with Fresno State for the event. Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade, associate professor of Raza studies and education at San Francisco State University and founder of the Roses in Concrete Community School in Oakland, will be the keynote speaker. He will use his experience as an educator to discuss ways teachers can produce higher levels of academic success. Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro and Provost Lynnette Zelezny will welcome guests to the summit, which will also feature sessions on such topics as peer-to-peer mentoring in higher education, developing caring relationships, changing student behavior and mentoring with an equity lens. CLEAR was founded in 2011 and works to develop and mentor leaders, address issues of inequity and provide opportunities for educators to learn from one another.
