Fresno State’s flags will be posted at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, Nov. 29, in memory of Ms. Mireyda “Mia” Barraza Martinez, a teaching associate in the English Department at Fresno State. University President Joseph I. Castro issued the directive that the flags be lowered on the day of services in honor of Ms. Barraza Martinez, a 2014 Fresno State graduate with a bachelor’s degree in English who was also enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing Program and was on track to graduate in the spring. She was teaching a poetry writing class this semester and was scheduled for the same class next semester. A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne’s Parish Church in Porterville (378 North F St.) followed by interment at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery (1013 E. Olive Ave.). A rosary service and viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Nov. 28), at Myers Funeral Service also in Porterville (248 North E St.).
