Dr. Iran Barrera, associate professor in the Department of Social Work Education at Fresno State, has been appointed chair of the Cultural Competence Track for the Council on Social Work Education effective January 2017 to December 2019. Barrera will lead the selection and organization process for the council’s annual program meeting. His work will promote cultural competence and encourage dialogue, exploration and identification of new directions for curriculum, leadership, research and pedagogy. Founded in 1952, the national nonprofit association represents over 2,500 members as well as graduate and undergraduate programs.
