The Bulldog Pride Fund, a scholarship fund founded under the Fresno State Alumni Association, received a $71,000 bequest from the estate of Larry Newsome, a friend of Fresno State who was a retired tour guide for Yosemite National Park. He died Sept. 29, 2013. Peter Robertson, founder of the Bulldog Pride Fund and director of development for the alumni association, said Newsome’s gift will be used to establish two new annual awards of $2,000 each. The Bulldog Pride Fund currently provides six annual scholarships of $2,000 each: Associated Students Inc. President’s Award, Drum Major Award, Gay-Straight Alliance Network Award, Harvey Milk Humanics Award, TimeOut Spirit Award and the United Student Pride Presidents Award. The fund has provided 49 scholarships valued at $87,000 since 2006 and has received a total of $455,812 in donations as of Jan. 15.
