Camila Chavez, niece of United Farm Workers founder Cesar Chavez and daughter of UFW pioneer Dolores Huerta and the late Richard Chavez (Cesar’s brother), will speak at 12:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, for Fresno State’s 21st annual Cesar E. Chavez Garlanding Ceremony and Celebration. Her parents were the keynote speakers in 2011. The event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Chavez monument in the Peace Garden, is part of Fresno State’s celebration of National Farm Workers Awareness Week March 24 through 31. A blood drive is also underway this week and a farmworkers photo exhibition is on display in the Henry Madden Library (second floor) through Thursday. The campus will be closed Friday, March 31, for the Cesar Chavez Day of Service Learning Holiday, the official state holiday commemorating the late farmworker’s birthday.
