The Fresno City Council will proclaim April 6 as “The Collegian Day” to honor the University’s student-run newspaper for its accomplishments at this year’s California Collegiate Media Association statewide competition.

Diana Giraldo, Collegian editor-in-chief, will lead a delegation of student journalists to accept the proclamation at 8:30 a.m. Thursday (April 6) at City Hall in downtown Fresno (2600 Fresno St.). This marks the second consecutive year the Collegian was honored by Councilmember Paul Caprioglio.

This year, the newspaper won 18 awards, including best newspaper inside page/spread design, best sales promotional material and best headline portfolio. Also this year, the Collegian took home the most awards for Fresno State since 2009.

The Collegian was one of 37 association member student newspapers that submitted 1,138 entries to the contest, which awarded journalism and advertising produced in 2016.
