Twelve Fresno Unified School District (FUSD) graduates-to-be were named recipients of $1,000 scholarships to attend Fresno State during the recent “College Send-Off Reception,” presented by the Office for Undergraduate Student Recruitment. Eleven have committed and will receive the award upon enrollment: Jennifer Paredes and Christopher Williams of Fresno High; Benjamin Cruz of Edison; Khalil Curry of Roosevelt; Surmitjit Kaur, Alyssa Schneider of Sunnyside; Denis Lopez of McLane; Chornbutty Pok of Design Science High School – Fresno City College; Ashton Salinas of Hoover; Lou Vang of Duncan; and Mariah Weaver of Bullard. The students will receive the scholarships if they choose to attend Fresno State in the fall semester. Over 450 high school seniors attended the reception on April 26 at the Hoover High School event center, where they received special medallions commemorating their success from Dr. Frank Lamas, Fresno State student affairs vice president, and Bob Nelson, FUSD interim superintendent.
