With Fresno State’s 106th commencement this week, the University is reminding students about responsible celebrating with several events open to all graduates and a guest as well as the Safe Celebrating pledge.

The Safe Celebration events will be held in the Bulldog Zone located on the lower level of the University Student Union beginning with a cap decorating party from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May17. Bowling and billiards will be available from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 18, and a DJ will perform live from 9 to 11 p.m. with food available.

Graduates and guests will not be permitted to carry in or consume alcoholic beverages at ceremony sites as spelled out in Commencement Expectations provided to students. Dr. Frank Lamas, vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, whose division coordinates the main commencement, said students who are visibly intoxicated or disruptive will not be allowed in the venues or will be escorted from the ceremonies. Students are asked to support the spirit of a dignified celebration with the Safe Celebrating Pledge.

I join the Fresno State community to pledge my commitment to celebrate safely, to help other students learn about Safe Celebrating and to intervene when I see a person in need because of alcohol or drug consumption.
