Oud master Richard Hagopian will present a talk and performance on “Armenian Song Repertoire of the Middle East” at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 26, at the University Business Center (Room 191). Hagopian began playing the oud — a short-neck stringed instrument commonly used in Middle Eastern music — at a young age and has received numerous awards including the prestigious National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship Award in 1989, the nation’s highest honor in traditional folk arts. This event is co-sponsored by the Armenian Studies Program, Middle East Studies Lecture, Performance and Film Series and the Global Music Lecture Series. The lecture is free and open to the public. Free parking is available in lots P5 and P6, near the University Business Center. INFO: Armenian Studies Program at 559.278.2669 or visit www.fresnostate.edu/armenianstudies.
