A California Raisin Day celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Fresno State’s Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market (5368 N. Chestnut Ave). Visitors can sample natural and chocolate-covered raisins, receive 15 percent off raisin purchases and enter a gift basket raffle. Children can meet and take photos with a dancing raisin from noon to 2 p.m. The farm market offers six varieties of raisins grown on campus that include Autumn Royal, Flame, Princess, Selma Peet, Summer Royal and Sweet Scarlet. The event is a collaboration of the April 30 national observance with the California Raisin Marketing Board, which supports and promotes consumer nutrition education, crop production and market research. California produces all of the raisins in the United States within a 60-mile radius of Fresno, and two-thirds of its harvest is shipped to 50 countries around the world.
