Every 15 seconds in the U.S. an older adult is treated for a fall in the emergency room. Injuries sustained from the falls can lead to hip fractures and other life-altering risks.

To reduce these risks, the Senior Awareness and Fall Education Central Valley Coalition will host a balance screening for adults (age 55 and over) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at California Health Sciences University (45 N. Clovis Ave.). The screenings will assess the strength, balance and risk of falling for pre-registered individuals, provide educational materials and a six-month post-assessment checkup.

Fresno State students from nursing, physical therapy and kinesiology will collaborate with pharmacy students from California Health Sciences University to complete the hour-long screenings, under the supervision of licensed nurse practitioners and physical therapists.
