Award-winning wines featured at ‘Friday Night Flights’ tastings

Fresno State winery staff and students will showcase several recent award-winning wines at several new “Friday Night Flights” events from 3 to 6 p.m. June 21, July 5, July 19, Aug. 2 and Aug. 16 at the campus winery barrel room (2360 E. Barstow Ave.) The casual, public wine-tasting events cost $5 and is a great way to kick off the weekend. The rotating list of white, rosé and red wines made by Viticulture and Enology Department students will include four wines that won medals at prestigious events this spring.

The grenache rosé won a gold medal at the California state fair; the sauvignon blanc won a silver medal at the San Francisco international competition; the pinot noir won a silver medal at the Orange County wine competition; and the syrah rosé won silver medals at the San Joaquin and California Rose Experience wine competitions.

Some wine might also be available for purchase at a discount, and wine club membership is free and offers a 20 percent discount on its three annual, four-bottle shipments. The campus winery is the nation’s first and largest bonded commercial winery on a university campus. Fresno State wines have won over 300 awards since the winery was officially started in 1997.
