Ela Gandhi, granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, will give a free talk titled “Gandhian legacy and challenges ahead in the 21st century: personal perspectives” at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the North Gym. Ela Gandhi is a former member of the parliament of South Africa, where she served from 1994 to 2004.

During Apartheid Era, she was banned from political activism and in 1975 was subjected to house arrest for a total of nine years. She is currently a peace activist, newspaper editor and social worker with a focus on child welfare. The talk is part of a series of events in commemoration of the 150th birthday of Gandhi’s birth.
