Where: Peace Garden, just north of the Madden Library. Park in Lot D or E,
south of the Library.
What: Unveiling of the newest statue in the Peace Garden honoring Jane Addams,
a 20th century human rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize winner.
The life-size bronze statue will be unveiled at a brief preview for students
at 1:30 p.m. The ceremony is organized by Associated Students, one of the major donors to the Addams project. The statue will be re-covered for an evening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. hosted by President John D. Welty. It begins with a reception and dinner in the Madden Library (enter through Atrium doors and proceed to north end of building). Following a program, participants will walk to the nearby Peace Garden at approximately
8:30 p.m. to see the statue unveiled.

Backgrnd: The bronze sculpture depicts Addams lifting aloft a small, immigrant child holding a globe. The sculpture was cast at Arizona Bronze Atelier in Tempe, Ariz. It sits on a black granite base etched with images from Addams’ life.
