The Hispanic Business Student Association at California State University, Fresno has been recognized as the National Chapter of the Year.

The award was presented at the National Hispanic Business Association’s annual Leadership Conference in Chicago on Nov. 3. The award acknowledges the chapter’s “exemplary student leadership and local commitment to the Fresno community, education and the professionalism of its members.”

The annual honor is determined in a very competitive year-long process and a final selection is made by the National Board of Directors from the 40 recognized collegiate chapters and includes a $1000 scholarship.

Also at the conference, Fresno State’s Juan Mendoza, was recognized as the NHBA Western Region Representative of the Year.

The Fresno chapter was represented at the three-day conference by 24 members and their adviser, Dr. Victor Olivares, who gave a presentation to corporate sponsors.

More than 670 Hispanic students from 52 universities attended the conference. A series of workshops were facilitated by corporate representatives and motivational speakers led the general sessions.

The mission of the National Hispanic Business Association is to help Hispanic undergraduate business students develop the real-world skills and relationships needed to launch successful professional careers.
