Amerasia Week 2008 begins today, March 5, at California State University, Fresno celebrating its 37th year with four days of festivities on campus.

Presented by the Amerasia Organization, the week consists of events showcasing Asian cultures, presented from 7 to 9 p.m. each day in the Satellite Student Union Admission is free and events are open to the public. Parking restrictions will be relaxed in Lot P (access at Barstow and Maple avenues).

Hmong culture takes center stage tonight, followed Thursday by a Laotian Student Association presentation. On Friday, the Japanese Student Association will present a play written by Cindy Thao, a Fresno State theater arts major.

Saturday is Festival Night, featuring a variety of Asian cultures, showcasing martial arts, lion dancers, Sanjo dancers, Hmong dancers and others.

“Amerasia Week is an opportunity for students and the community to join together in celebration of diversity in the Asian cultures,” said Phong Hang, chair of Amerasia Week.
