The annual summer plant sale at California State University, Fresno, a Fresno Iris Society fundraiser and an Organic U-Pick event make for a busy Saturday, Aug. 14, on campus.

Houseplants and a variety of landscape plants, including shrubs, perennials and trees, will be on sale at reduced prices during the event at the Fresno State Horticulture Nursery, which is on Barstow Avenue, just east of Chestnut Avenue, across from the Gibson Farm Market.

The plants were grown with student involvement from plant science classes within the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. Staff and students will be available to answer gardening questions.

Also at the nursery, the Iris Society fundraiser will have lots of Iris rhizomes available for home gardeners. Requested donations vary with the rarity of the lris. Proceeds support the society. Iris Society members will answer questions from home gardeners.

The two events are scheduled from 8 to 11 a.m.

Just behind the nursery, the Organic U-Pick gives people a chance to harvest organic melons, tomatoes, eggplant, okra and other vegetables at special prices. Students and staff from the university’s Organic Enterprise will be there to talk about Organics at Fresno State. This event will be from 8 to 10 a.m.
