The Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at California State University, Fresno is accepting applications for five new or early-stage businesses to participate in the Valley Entrepreneur Showcase at the fifth annual Central Valley Venture Forum.

The forum is planned 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Veterans Memorial Building in Clovis.

The application deadline is Oct. 28. Applicantions are online at www.valleyventureforum.com.

The forum’s featured speakers are Steve Westley, managing partner of the Westley Group, and Bill Lockyear, the California treasurer. The forum will provide central San Joaquin Valley entrepreneurs, businesses and community leaders with information about raising capital and thriving in a down economy.

Five emerging businesses will have the opportunity to pitch venture capitalists and angel investors for funding at the Valley Entrepreneur Showcase, the Valley’s only event of its kind.

“The showcase offers fast-paced businesses an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities to a number of leading angel investor groups, venture capital funds and commercial banking institutions,” said Brad Triebsch, a partner in the Central Valley Fund.

Entrepreneurs make eight-minute presentations, then answer questions from a judging panel.

The winner gets to present its venture to a regional Keiretsu Forum, similar to the Valley event, but with market leaders from the private sector and the institutional investment community.
