Darrin Navarro, editor of the American independent comedy “Terri,” will lead a discussion between screenings of the film Friday, Aug. 12, at the Tower Theatre (915 E. Olive Ave., in central Fresno).

Fresno Filmworks and California State University, Fresno’s CineCulture Club are sponsors.

“Terri” stars Academy Award-nominated actor John C. Reilly.

Screenings are 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., with Navarro’s presentation following the first showing. Tickets: $10 general, $8 students and seniors.

Credits for Navarro, a former Fresno Film Festival judge, include “Momma’s Man,” “Bug” and “The Dish and the Spoon.” He has worked with filmmakers Sofia Coppola, Peter Bogdanovich and William Friedkin among others.

“Terri” (2011), a fan favorite at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, features Reilly as an over-talkative but well-meaning vice principal who reaches out to an oversized teen misfit played by acting newcomer Jacob Wysocki. The 105-minute movie, inspired by the short stories of novelist Patrick deWitt.

The CineCulture Club begins its 2011-12 season Sept. 2 with “Monsieur Ibrahim,” followed by “Out of Cordoba” (Sept. 15 at the Fresno Art Museum and Sept 16 at the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center in Fresno State’s Student Recreation Center at Shaw and Woodrow avenues).

Fresno Filmworks is a community-based, nonprofit organization that showcases first-run international and American independent feature films at the Tower Theatre and presents the Fresno Film Festival each spring.
