The departure from Fresno State of Associate Provost Ellen Junn to become Provost at San Jose State has prompted a variety of administrative moves to cover the wide range of responsibilities and initiatives that she headed.

Fresno State Provost William A. Covino announced that rather than hire a replacement when Junn leaves campus Jan. 13, her duties will be assigned to other campus administrators.

On Jan. 16, Dr. Lynnette Zelezny will begin an interim term of up to two years as associate vice president for Continuing and Global Education and associate provost, combining her present responsibilities with additional duties currently assigned to Junn.

Others who will handle some of Junn’s responsibilities are Vice President for Administration Cynthia Teniente-Matson, Associate Vice President Tom McClanahan, Associate Dean Sandra Witte of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and management professor Rudy Sanchez.

Covino said savings achieved by reallocating responsibilities will be applied to the Academic Affairs budget gap that he is currently trying to close.

He also noted that over the past 2½ years, budget reductions have prompted him to eliminate 8.5 management and the three staff positions in Academic Affairs offices, representing salaries totaling just over $1 million.
