The Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED) at Fresno State was awarded $158,013 by the California Workforce Investment Board to bolster support of the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Industry Cluster in the San Joaquin Valley.
Through this Regional Industry Cluster of Opportunity II (RICO II) grant, OCED will leverage existing partnerships in Kern County to replicate training programs between workforce investment boards and community colleges in numerous counties in the region. A workforce infrastructure is already established with the Kern Community College District’s (KCCD) Clean Energy Center and Workplace Learning Resource Center.
David Teasdale, acting director of the KCCD Workplace Learning Resource Center, said this grant allows the KCCD Clean Energy Center to work with Fresno State and other partners to “further define and prioritize the needs of the emerging alternative and renewable fuel and vehicle technology industry in the San Joaquin Valley and identify the workforce training required to support the growth of the industry.”
Established in 2000, Fresno State’s OCED is an on-campus division designed to be the link between the university and its resources and the needs of the community.
