Fresno State’s Aztec Dance Club presents Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) Nov. 1 and 2 in the Free Speech Area for the traditional Mexican celebration that honors and remembers the dead by decorating gravesites or altars with mementos. Workshops were held last week to prepare papier-mâché skulls that will be displayed at the event, which also commemorates the Roman Catholic observance of All Saints Day Nov. 1 and All Souls Day Nov. 2. The altar display opens at 11 a.m. Friday and continues 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday. A speaker will discuss the significance behind the altar displays at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Free Speech platform followed by the Aztec Dance Club performing at 6 p.m. Closing ceremony is 6 p.m. Saturday.
