Adela Santana, a Columbia University-trained anthropologist, will be the discussant at this week’s Latin Film Festival screening of “A Busca” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Alice Peters Auditorium (room 191) in the Peters Business Building (map). The film depicts Theo, a successful doctor in the wealthy suburbs of São Paulo, who, when his 15-year-old son disappears, sells his belongings and goes to great lengths not only to find his son, but to rediscover himself. Santana has more than 15 years of experience in federal and international non-governmental, organizations-funded ethnographic work. She has conducted fieldwork in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, the United States and the United Kingdom and is currently completing a dissertation on the construction of pain in Mexican Lucha Libre.
