The 21st Annual “La Pastorela — A Shepherd Story” bilingual holiday play will be performed at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in the Satellite Student Union at Fresno State. Presented by the student organization TORTILLA (Teatro of Raza Towards Involvement in Local Latino Awareness), La Pastorela is a parody based on the shepherds’ journey to Bethlehem to witness the first Christmas but with a twist, said TORTILLA member Jose D. Gomez. Primarily in Spanish, the play is intended to raise awareness and educate the community about political, social and economic issues affecting the Latino community, he added. The Fresno State Mariachi also will perform at the free, public event. The Mexican beverage, Canela (cinnamon tea), will be served with traditional Mexican pan dulce (sweet bread). Permits for free parking will be distributed at Lots J, A and C from 6 -7:30 p.m.. INFO: Gomez at jdanielgomez@mail.fresnostate.edu. See details at www.facebook.com.
