Fresno State mass communication and journalism professor Betsy Hays has been selected as the associate director for the university’s Coleman Fellows Program. Operated by the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Coleman Fellows Program fosters entrepreneurship education by integrating entrepreneurial elements into academic courses.
As the associate director, Hays will work with Coleman Fellows on campus to creating innovative curriculum. Additionally, she will be in charge of coordinating and sharing efforts with the national Coleman Foundation and facilitating interaction and engagement among the fellows at Fresno State.
Hays was awarded a Coleman Fellowship in 2006 for her creation of the Public Relations Entrepreneurship course. Fellows receive a two semester stipend to support the development of curricula that incorporates elements of entrepreneurship.
Being a fellow, Hays said, is one of her favorite parts of working at Fresno State. “I am honored to have been chosen as the associate director for the Coleman Fellows Program,” Hays said. “I am a huge fan of both the Lyles Center and entrepreneurship, and I look forward to working with my amazing Fresno State colleagues to further expand entrepreneurship education on campus.”
To date, 21 faculty members at Fresno State have been awarded a Coleman Fellowship since the program was created nine years ago. The Chicago-based Coleman Foundation adopted the model in 2010, and it is now a nationally-recognized program. Approximately 300 Coleman Fellows have been selected at more than 30 campuses across the country.
