Dr. Daniel Goleman, a leadership and management expert whose book, “Emotional Intelligence,” was an international bestseller, will be the featured speaker at the free Life-Long Leadership Learning Seminar from 2-4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15 in the Satellite Student Union at Fresno State.

The California Agricultural Leadership Foundation and the University are sponsoring the seminar, a reception, book signing and follow-up discussion.

Goleman is a psychologist and author of 13 books, including his latest, “Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence.”

He reported on the human brain and behavioral sciences for The New York Times for many years and was twice nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. In 1995, “Emotional Intelligence” was on The New York Times bestseller list for a year-and-a-half, with more than 5 million copies in print worldwide in 40 languages.

The Harvard Business Review called emotional intelligence — which discounts IQ as the sole measure of one’s abilities — “a revolutionary, paradigm-shattering idea” and chose his article, “What Makes a Leader” as one of 10 must-read articles from its pages.

He currently co-directs the Consortium for Research on Emotional Intelligence in Organizations at Rutgers University. The consortium fosters research partnerships between academic scholars and practitioners on the role emotional intelligence plays in excellence.

Goleman grew up in Stockton, earned his undergraduate degree at Amherst College and a   Ph.D. from Harvard University.

The seminar is open to the public but an RSVP is needed by Sept. 10 to 831.585.1030 or elazzerini@agleaders.org.
