In its final action culminating 15 years of community service, the University HOPE (Housing OPportunities through Education) organization will present a $3,500 check to the Bulldog Pantry (2311 E. Shaw Ave.) at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19. HOPE is dissolving and the funds represent its remaining assets that will help the student-operated pantry with emergency food needs in the campus area. The non-profit HOPE built 12 new homes, remodeled three other homes and completed repairs to many others with the support of thousands of Fresno State student volunteers. One notable project was when HOPE assisted a group of faculty and students who traveled to New Orleans in 2005 to help re-build after Hurricane Katrina.
