About 350 local and statewide Latino community leaders and organizations are expected at the free, public event that is co-sponsored by the Education and Leadership Foundation, the Latina/o Faculty and Staff Association of Fresno State, attorney Joel Murillo and Donaghy Sales.

Attendees will meet Castro, who is the first Latino to serve as Fresno State’s president, and cabinet members  Dr. Lynnette Zelezny, provost and vice president for academic affairs; Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, vice president for administration and chief financial officer; Dr. Frank Lamas, vice president for student affairs; and Paula Castadio, vice president for advancement.

Teniente-Matson became the first Latina to hold her vice president position when she was hired in 2004. Lamas, who joined Fresno State July 1, is the first Latino to hold the top student affairs position.

Raul Moreno, who is coordinator of University Migrant Services and president of the Latino Faulty and Staff Association, said one of the purposes of the event is to continue to enhance the visibility of the University in the Latino community and develop collaborations and partnerships with community leaders.

“This event gives Latino community leaders and organization representatives an opportunity to meet Fresno State’s leadership team and learn more about the bold vision we share for increasing student success,” Moreno said.

The meeting opens with an invocation and the national anthem, followed by Castro’s remarks and introduction of his cabinet. It ends with a meet-and-greet session.
