The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi – the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines – has recognized the Fresno State chapter of Phi Kappa Phi as a Chapter of Excellence, the highest commendation a chapter can receive from the organization. The award is given to chapters that excel in recognizing and promoting academic excellence in all fields of higher education and engaging the community of scholars in service to others.
This is the second consecutive year that Fresno State has earned the award. The Chapter of Excellence distinction is a part of the society’s Chapter Recognition program, which acknowledged 29 chapters with the excellence designation. There are 316 Phi Kappa Phi chapters in North America and the Philippines.

By receiving the Chapter of Excellence distinction, the Fresno State chapter is recognized as an organization exhibiting outstanding performance as a result of the efforts of its volunteer chapter officers.

Founded in 1897, Phi Kappa Phi inducts annually approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni. Membership is by invitation only to the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students and 7.5 percent of juniors. Faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction also qualify.
