Fresno State will retire former Bulldog All-American and three-time USA Softball Olympic gold medalist Laura Berg’s No. 44 jersey on Saturday, Feb. 28 prior to the `Dogs 5:30 p.m. matchup with Oregon State. Head coach Trisha Ford announced the decision Jan. 6, which was also Berg’s birthday. Now in her third season as head coach of the Beavers, Berg returns to her alma mater with her team for the Fresno State Louisville Slugger Bash. The Santa Fe Springs native guided Fresno State to its first NCAA Division I national title in 1998 and was a four-time All-American. She graduated in 1998 with a bachelor’s degree in recreation and leisure studies and later served as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs. The jersey retirement ceremony at Margie Wright Diamond will include a banner commemorating her Bulldog success. Fans will receive a commemorative Laura Berg  trading card.
