A vigil in support of victims of the Nepal earthquake and their families will be held from 3-4 p.m. Friday, May 1 in the Peace Garden at Fresno State.

Faculty and students who are from Nepal will make appeals for support with closing comments by University President Joseph I. Castro. The vigil is sponsored by the International Student Services Program, International Student Association, Geography Club and Plant Science Club.

It will include a moment of Silence, Nepali peace music with an offering of flowers and a song for peace by Nepalese children. Speaker appeals will include information on how to donate.

The public is invited to bring a flower to place for the victims.

Among the speakers will be Dr. Shailesh Rana from the Craig School of Business, Dr. Mohan Dangi from the Geography and City and Regional Planning Dept., Dr. Paul Hoffman, director of the International Student Services Program, and Dr. Prachand Shrestha, a scientist in Visalia who will represent Nepalese community members here.

Student speakers include Rama Paudel, a Plant Science graduate.in the Jordan College of Science and Technology, who plans to return to Nepal on May 18, and Karen Jimenez, president of the Fresno State Geography Club.

Earlier in the week, President Castro urged the campus community to support efforts of the Fresno State Nepali faculty and students who are coordinating local relief efforts and recommended three established organizations: UNICEF, Catholic Relief Services and American Red Cross.
