Dr. Rose Marie Kuhn, coordinator of the Fresno State French program, will lead a CineCulture post-film discussion of “Timbuktu” which screens at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in the Leon S. and Pete P. Peters Educational Center in the Student Recreation Center (5010 N. Woodrow Ave.). The film, a 2015 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, shows the upheaval of the city of Timbuktu, Mali, under the rule of religious fundamentalists. A man named Tuareg Kidane and his family have been spared the toil under the new regime until Kidane commits an accidental crime. The film is shown in five languages, including French and Arabic, with English subtitles. Sponsors for the screening are the Modern and Classical Languages and Literature Department, the French Program and the Middle East Studies Program. CineCulture films screened on campus are free and open to the public. Campus parking is free on weekends, beginning at 4 p.m. on Fridays. INFO: Dr. Mary Husain at mhusain@csufresno.edu or visit the CineCulture websiteSee fall lineup press release.
