Fresno State presents its Cross Cultural Celebration Week Sept. 21-25 with a flag parade across campus from 11:50 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, Sept .21, and the Taste of Culture Festival from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking is $3 for a day permit at dispensers near campus entrances (see map).

The parade starts in front of the Joyal Administration building (west side) and proceeds west to the Free Speech Area platform by the Madden Library. It will feature a display of flags and participants are encouraged to wear cultural attire.

The kick-off program at the platform will feature Dr. Frank Lamas, vice president for student affairs and enrollment management; Dr. Lynette Zelezny, provost and vice president for academic affairs; and performances and presentations from student cultural organizations.

The Taste of Culture Festival on Wednesday at Memorial Court (south of the Kennel Bookstore) will feature the interactive Multicultural Student Organization Fair, food samples from around the world, the Cross Cultural Celebration Fashion Show showcasing cultural wardrobes and a variety of cultural dances, demonstrations and more.

Other Cross Cultural Celebration Week events include:

  • International Coffee Hour (Colombia): 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Madden Library (Room 2206).
  • “Strange Like Me” (theatrical program exploring racism, sexism and homophobia): 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at North Gym (Room 118).
  • Difinido por mis habilidades (defined by my abilities) presentation and panel discussion on identity intersection and disabilities: 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Madden Library (Room 2206)
  • California Native American Heritage Day: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Maple Mall
  • CineCulture film screening of “Leviathan”: 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25, at Fresno Filmworks at the Tower Theatre (815 E. Olive Ave.)
