(October 4, 2016) — Fresno State’s Army ROTC Bulldog Battalion and the Bulldog Marching Band will be on the field at O.co Coliseum in Oakland on Sunday, Oct. 9, for the NFL game between the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers.

A five-cadet ROTC detail will make a return performance for National Anthem color guard duty just prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff. The battalion previously participated in a Raiders game this past December.

Led by M. Sgt. Jose Quijas, a military science professor at Fresno State, the cadets are Isaac Fielding of Prather; Quinn Heckman of Atwater; Matthew Mello of Exeter; Emily Richardson of Bakersfield; and Jordan Tarquinio of Encino.

The 283-member band will depart from Reno, where they will be performing Saturday at the Bulldogs’ football game against Nevada. The band will perform a brief tribute to Santana at halftime of both games, said band director Steve McKeithen.

“We were invited by the Raiders organization to perform at halftime for its Latin American heritage game, and the Raiders are acknowledging the Fresno State connection to Derek Carr,” McKeithen said.

Carr was a record-setting Bulldogs quarterback from 2009-2013 before he was drafted by the Raiders in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The Chargers also have a former Bulldog, guard Kenny Wiggins, who played offensive line from 2007-2010.
