In the U.S., an older adult dies from a fall injury every 29 minutes. In Fresno County, 75 percent of injuries to seniors age 65 and older are caused by falls. To reduce these risks, the Senior Awareness Fall Education Central Valley Coalition will host a balance screening for older adults from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at the California Health Sciences University Annex (45 N. Clovis Ave.). The screenings will assess the strength, balance and risk of falling for 25 pre-registered clients. Fresno State students from nursing, physical therapy and kinesiology will collaborate with pharmacy students from California Health Sciences University to complete the hour-long screenings. Registration for the free screening is now closed. INFO: Andrew Schiavello-Youngblood at 559.572.7755 or andrewschiavello@mail.fresnostate.edu.
