At today’s Bulldogs football season finale, Fresno State will pay tribute to its late alumnus, Dr. Sam Iacobellis, who died Sept. 3.

Family members led by son Sam Iacobellis II and daughter Lee Ann Iacobellis Schantz will join University President Dr. Joseph I. Castro on the field for the video tribute that will be shown during the first quarter.

Known as the “Father of the B1-B bomber” for his role in developing the airship that is credited with helping thaw the Cold War, Dr. Iacobellis earned a degree in mechanical engineering in 1952.

Dr. Iacobellis gave back to his alma mater by connecting Boeing and Fresno State to create the University’s Husband-Boeing Honors Scholars Program in Engineering. This partnership also produced the Husband-Boeing Honors Scholarships, with a $2 million gift from the Boeing Company.

Dr. Iacobellis’ contributions to the nation’s aviation industry and Fresno State were recently honored by Congressman Jim Costa in the U.S. House of Representatives and Assemblyman Jim Patterson in the California State Assembly. Both are also alumni of Fresno State
