Fresno State’s Downtown Center at Bitwise South Stadium is launching a series of career development workshops in partnership with the City of Fresno, the United Way and other community-based organizations.

Funded by a grant from Wells Fargo, the Career Readiness Academy is a series of workshops created to serve low-income residents who are new to the workplace, re-entering the workforce or who are seeking to advance in their current occupations. Developed and coordinated by the Division of Continuing and Global Education at Fresno State, the workshops are free to participants.

With assistance from campus and community partners, the Division of Continuing and Global Education is providing training in soft skills (critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, teamwork, written and oral communication), career readiness skills (interviewing, resume writing, finding jobs and exploring careers) and technology training through Geekwise Academy classes focused on website development. Participants will also learn to use online career assessment tools under the guidance of counseling interns from Fresno State.

“Our partnerships with Wells Fargo, the City of Fresno and numerous community-based organizations have resulted in an exceptional opportunity for residents of the Central Valley to obtain career training at no cost,” said Dr. Scott Moore, dean of Continuing and Global Education. “We look forward to hearing the success stories from individuals benefitting from this unique program.”

Local organizations can refer clients to the free program by completing the referral form at www.FresnoState.edu/cra. Individuals can also apply by completing the self-application form found at the same location.
